Abstract

The article investigates the primary oil refining process and the separation of crude oil into different fractions under atmospheric and vacuum conditions. The structure and operation of technological complexes, including tubular furnaces as well as simple and complex rectification columns, are analyzed. The existing automation systems and the modernization efforts carried out for process units are also reviewed. The study highlights that, although significant reconstruction and modernization of automation systems have been implemented, advanced local and automatic control strategies for stabilizing key process parameters have not yet been fully applied in the original design of technological units. In this context, the development and application of modern automatic control systems based on recent scientific and technical advances are considered highly relevant to ensure both production efficiency and required quality of oil fractions.  It is concluded that the proposed control system improves the stabilization of technological parameters and enhances overall fuel efficiency in the primary oil refining process.
